The recently created World-Wide Association of NT User Groups (WANTUG), held its initial
Annual Meeting and Elections on Tuesday, August 27, at the Windows NT Intranet
Solutions (WNTIS) Conference and Exposition in San Francisco. Following are
the new members of the Board of Directors for WANTUG:
"WANTUG intends to aggressively develop educational and support programs for users of Windows NT-based technologies," said WANTUG President Charles Kelly. "In addition to supporting NT-based user groups, future plans include launching a world-wide individual membership professional society in mid- to late 1997. This society will include enhanced on-line support forums and will have a major emphasis on training and certification programs."
Leaders of over 70 NT-based user groups and professional associations from Australia, Belgium, France, Russia, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States have joined together to build a professional association dedicated to meeting the needs of local users. WANTUG will provide a central clearinghouse for the dissemination of technical, educational, and support information and programs to the local end user.
On August 29, also at WNTIS, WANTUG President Charles Kelly and Founder Mark Kapczynski met with Steve Ballmer, Executive Vice President Sales and Support of Microsoft Corporation and William Lohse, President and CEO of SOFTBANK Expos to discuss the association's future direction.
"Industry heavyweights Microsoft Corporation and SOFTBANK Expos have agreed to be founding sponsors of WANTUG," said Lisa Thomassie, WANTUG Vice President, Marketing. "In the coming months, we will be presenting our sponsorship plan to many other companies who also play a major role in the Windows NT-based marketplace."
WANTUG is an independent non-profit organization committed to the advancement of Windows NT-based solutions through open forums, user groups, education, and other media. It will foster the growth and development of local NT-based user groups as a means of educating and supporting the local Windows NT-based user community.
"As evidence of WANTUG's commitment to international educational programs, several officers will be making presentations at the Tokyo Windows NT Intranet Solutions Conference and Exposition on December 10-12, 1996. Representing WANTUG at the Tokyo WNTIS will be Charles Kelly, John McMains, Ed Roberts, and myself," added Mark Kapczynski, WANTUG Founder.
